Our third day on the road was filled with unexpected twists and turns. We hit a few dirt roads and dead ends along the way, but the drive was beautiful and it was all in the "spirit of Route 66".
Most of the day was spent driving through the Ozarks of Missouri. A few highlights along included: Meramec Caves, giant rocking chair, and Devil's Elbow Bridge.
We stopped at Steak 'n Shake for dinner. It was built in 1962 and has many of its original features still intact.
Our day ended with one more twist as we pulled up to Blue Creek Campground a mere 20 minutes after they had locked the gate and left for the night. We did discover though you can stay at rest stops in Oklahoma. So an hour up the turnpike and we had a place to pull over for the night. All in all it was a great day on the road.
