We kicked things off with a surprise visit to see our good friend Robin be given the Unsung Hero Award at her school. If you've ever met Robin (and you really should if you haven't), you'll know that she's one of the most enthusiastic people IN THE WORLD. A very nice bit of joy to start our trip with!
Leaving Madison we were immediately hit with traffic, of course! It took us about 45 minutes to get across town and on our way, but then we were off and on our way South (avoiding tolls obviously). The weather was gorgeous on our drive down, allowing us to enjoy some lovely Illinois countryside. We also kicked off road BINGO!
Our first campsite was at the Blackwell Forest Preserve. It was a beautiful place to stay our first night. The campground was very wee groomed and they had a beautiful small lake, trails for hiking, picnic areas, and a sledding hill with 360 degree views of the area.
We ended the night with a delicious dinner of brats and veggies cooked over the campfire.
