4 Pink - Luzern to Interlaken

Submitted by jwineichen on

Yesterday, we took a train from Luzern to Grindelwald, a small mountain village. The main portion of the train ride was actually from Luzern to the station in Interlaken with just a short ride up the mountain after switching trains. While we didn't spend time in Interlaken, it was a very beautiful train ride getting there. Interlaken sits in a valley between two beautiful lakes. Here's the one we went by.

From there, we continued into the Swiss Alps. After lunch in Grindelwald, we decided to go even further up, taking a cable car up to First, which is basically just a restaurant and ski lodge at the top of one of the mountains. First's elevation is 2,167 m. For comparison Madison's elevation is 226 m.

At First, there are several hiking trails you can take. We hiked the short cliff walk trail that included a cable rope bridge and a glass platform jutting out over the edge of the cliff.

The views from First were just incredible. It almost looks like we're in front of a green screen.

There was a few scattered showers while we were up there, but during one of the breaks we explored part of another trail. We both agreed that it would definitely be worth it to come back when we are more prepared to hike. Here's a view from the path.

Then it was time to come back down the mountain.
