Hello and welcome to our blog! It seems like we have been planning our honeymoon forever; it’s hard to believe that it is finally here! We are excited to share our adventures with you through this blog. It should be a real "American Tail," but we're hoping we don't get washed overboard!
Along the right side you can see roughly where we will be when, but we wanted to share a little more about what we have planned. In Ireland, we will begin our journey in a quaint cottage in Galway and visiting the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher (the Cliffs of Insanity!). From there we will be traveling south and spending the night in Ballyseede Castle in Tralee (the first of TWO castles we will be staying in). Following our stay at the castle we will be biking around the Ring of Kerry (111 miles), and spending some time in Killarney.
From there, we’ll jet over to London, staying in a cozy flat a couple blocks from Kensington Gardens. Our adventure takes a turn for the dramatic as we’ll be seeing Shakespeare’s “Scottish play” at the Globe and an improv musical, Showstopper. In addition, we’ll traverse the city, taking in many of the free museums and iconic landmarks, like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the Word on the Water bookshop. We’ll also get to see some of our favorite fictional locations in real life like 221B Baker Street and Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station.
Next stop: Paris! We’ve turned a cancelled flight into a romantic day on the train. Our stopover in Paris leaves us just enough time for a stroll along the Seine, a kiss in front of the Eiffel Tower, perhaps a baguette or Pain au Chocolat from a cafe, and then we’re back on our way to the Festival City of Lucerne.
We end our adventure in Switzerland, where Jake’s dad began the journey of life (i.e. he was born there). We’ll actually be taking a day trip to Jake’s dad’s hometown of Urswil, as well as taking a train to visit Interlaken and the Alpine mountain village of Grindelwald. We’ll stay two nights in a hotel overlooking the lake, and for our final night in Europe, we’ll be staying in the castle that inspired Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disneyland, Chateau Gutsch (Castle number TWO!).
We will be posting as often as we have a wifi connection and time. In Ireland, we expect to be posting less often, but in London and Switzerland we may post everyday. So check back every couple of days to see updates and photos. You can also leave us comments if you’d like!
